A preposition can be confusing sometimes, especially for those who are new English learners.

Let’s begin with what role do prepositions play. A preposition is a word used to link or connect nouns, pronouns, or phrases to other words within a sentence.

Prepositions help us understand position and movement, possession, time, and how an action is completed. Remember theirs more than 100 prepositions in the English language, and if you want to express yourself correctly, make sure you are using the right preposition.

We use :

in– for a PRECISE TIME

at-for a MONTHS,YEARS,SEASONS,PART OF THE DAY

on-DAYS AND DATES

at

  • at 10 o’clock
  • at half past six
  • at the moment
  • at weekends

in

  • in the morning
  • in April
  • in (the) summer
  • in 2019

on

  • on Sunday
  • on Mondays
  • on 5 March

Look at this examples:

I usually dont work on Mondays.

Maria went home at lunchtime.

I will pay the bills in the morning.
